To best serve our customers, we have to keep evolving our ability to solve the complex issues facing their businesses.

We’ve been able to adapt our advanced technology solutions because of the consistent investments we’ve made toward refining our transportation technology: over the past 10 years, we’ve spent more than $3 billion on technology across all our operations, including truck brokerage digitization and LTL optimization. Whenever we make these investments, we always look to partner with great organizations involved in cutting-edge work.

Now, we’re excited to announce the next step we’re taking to build faster, more efficient supply chains. In a multiyear partnership, we’ll collaborate with Google Cloud to further innovate how goods move through supply chains. By leveraging Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data analytics technology, we’ll be able to improve supply chain processes and give our customers greater visibility. This comes at an exciting time for the company, as we prepare to spin-off our tech-enabled brokered services business from our North American less-than-truckload (LTL) business to create two pureplay transportation powerhouses, both deeply rooted in technology.

Our first-mover technology advantage has bolstered our reputation as a best-in-class truck broker with a history of outperforming the industry. The proprietary XPO Connect digital brokerage has been rapidly adopted by the industry. Now, by working with Google Cloud as we head into the planned spin-off, we’re going to make it even better by enhancing our capabilities while serving our partners and customers.

Google Cloud’s scalability will allow us to increase our ability to handle the growing volume of demand, resulting in continuous high application availability and performance during growth periods.

In our less-than-truckload (LTL) business, Google Cloud’s data analytics ability will help improve the optimization of our proprietary technology for routing, load-building and labor productivity. Integrations with data and AI will also help our advanced pricing tools, which optimize LTL rates for local and regional accounts.

Through our partnership with Google Cloud, we also have an opportunity to be more sustainable. By investing in technology to transport goods in the most efficient way possible, we’re able to reduce our carbon footprint. Our customers will also benefit from improvements to XPO Connect, too. For example, our truck brokerage carriers will benefit from optimized recommendations and lane assignments to reduce empty miles. In LTL, our modern fleet will use optimized routes and drivers will undergo training for eco-friendly driving techniques.

We use technology to increase shareholder value, enhance our competitive advantages and make the most of the cutting-edge technology and best-in-class operators within our organization. As we continue to work toward XPO’s next chapter, technology – and the great partners helping us create advanced solutions – will be at the core of our differentiation in the marketplace as a customer-centric innovator.
